The Story of Fat Bird Marketing

Fat Bird Marketing is more than a marketing agency. We are your creative partners, chaos wranglers, and the extra brainpower you borrow when you need to make something happen.

The company hatched in 2020 during one of the strangest chapters of modern life. Our founder, Janey Hawley, suddenly found herself without a job and plenty of ideas waiting to take flight. Like many people that year, she ended up on a pandemic friend Zoom happy hour with a glass of wine and a question that would officially shape the next chapter of her life.
​
“I think I want to start my own business, and I need a name,” she said.
​
Ideas flew around the call. Lisa, now business partner and best friend since eighth grade, blurted out Phat Bird. It was bold, funny, and instantly loved. Then came the discovery: a fried chicken restaurant in Atlanta already claimed it. So Janey went searching for a twist and found the simpler version Fat Bird on Urban Dictionary. It was defined as a phrase shouted to spark a reaction, shift energy, and invite positivity—something that could be contagious and usually yelled.

That was it. Everything clicked. Fat Bird captured the energy, the optimism, and the refusal to blend in. It was bold. It was unexpected. It was exactly what we wanted this business to be. Fat Bird Marketing was born that night, and it has been flying ever since.

JANEY HAWLEY
Crayon Evangelist

Janey is the Co Founder of Fat Bird Marketing and the agency’s resident Crayon Evangelist, blending sharp strategy with bold creative to help brands show up clearly and consistently. With more than a decade of experience in branding and marketing, she has led work for high-end, multi-location restaurant groups and a wide range of service based businesses, bringing a mix of storytelling, design thinking, and practical execution to every project.
​
She started her career in Oklahoma City as a Marketing Manager for a raw vegan restaurant concept, then moved to California where she strengthened her sales and client experience chops as an event manager. After relocating to Colorado in 2017, Janey has partnered with clients across the Front Range to build brands people remember and marketing that actually moves the needle.
​
Known for her loyalty, straight talk, and long game mindset, Janey builds relationships that often turn into years-long partnerships and real friendships. She loves helping clients feel proud of what they are putting into the world, and she is happiest when the final result feels aligned, elevated, and unmistakably them. Outside of work, she is usually skiing, hiking, running with her dogs, or watching all the good shows.
LISA KINDSVATER
Herder of Helpless Peeps

Lisa is the Co Founder of Fat Bird Marketing and the person who makes sure ideas turn into finished, polished, client ready work. She keeps the business running, the team aligned, and every project moving forward with clarity and momentum. Equal parts operations brain and client experience champion, she loves helping clients get to the finish line with a complete, fantastic final product that feels thoughtful, cohesive, and done done.
​
She owns all things operations, office management, project management, and administration, plus the thousand tiny details that make the difference between “we should do that” and “it is live and it looks incredible.” Lisa graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2011 with her degree in Business Management. Outside of work, she enjoys running, hiking, paddle boarding, and spending time with her husband and fur babies.
HALIE SKARA
​​​​​Chaos Coordinator
Halie Skara is the rock of Fat Bird Marketing. She is the keeper of keys, the master of the moving parts, and the reason things stay organized, on track. She is incredibly sharp, wildly organized, and a true go getter who keeps the team steady and the work flowing. The kind of person you quietly wonder how you ever functioned without.
​
Originally from Minnesota, Halie made the leap to Colorado in 2021. Her background is refreshingly diverse, starting as an EMT in Level 1 trauma centers and even serving as a medical consultant for touring bands. Most recently, she stepped into bakery management, where she sharpened her leadership skills and leaned into what she does best: strengthening team collaboration and making operations smoother, smarter, and more effective.
​
Outside of work, Halie loves a good book, getting out on the trails, and diving into new hobbies because she is always learning and leveling up. When she is off the clock, she is all about quality time with her husband and their three pets.
ANDRA MENHENNETT
Marketing Maven​
​
Andra is a key part of the Fat Bird team, partnering closely with clients and our crew to bring campaigns to life from idea to execution. She helps shape messaging, tighten strategy, and make sure every deliverable is polished, on brand, and actually works. Just as important, she keeps the process feeling steady and supportive so clients feel good, informed, and taken care of at every step.
​
She is a proud Oklahoma State University grad with a degree in Elementary Education and spent years teaching in Oklahoma. Now she is with Fat Bird full time, using those same skills to keep projects organized, communication clear, and content looking flocking fabulous. When she is not deep in campaigns and content, you will find her playing board games, reading, and spending time with her friends, husband, and two cats, Pip and Dash.

When she's not buried in books, you'll find her crafting captivating content, traveling the world, dominating board games, or maybe sneaking a selfie on someone's phone.

Sydney is a Colorado native with a lifelong passion for marketing and social media. As a college graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Marketing, she is working on her skills in creating social media graphics and writing copy. Sydney's love for branding and communication has been a constant throughout her life, inspiring her to bring creativity and strategy to every project. Outside of marketing, Sydney enjoys cooking and baking, staying active with workouts, and keeping up with all things Bravo and reality TV.
